| Bogart,
Border Collie
Birthday - February 1, 1999
Bogart, or Bug as he's known around the house, is my first Border Collie. He was left at Second Chance Animal Shelter in Shaftsbury, VT at about 6 weeks of age and taken into BC rescue. Bogart came to me over Columbus Day weekend in October 1999 at about 8 months old.
We entered the ring for the first time in June 2000. In October 2007, after winning a bronze medal in the DOCNA Nationals North America Challenge Veteran Division, Bogart and I entered the ring for the last time at the National Border Collie Specialty in Missouri and placed 3rd in that Excellent Standard run in the competitive 20” class. What a great way to retire from active competition! Bogart and I have qualified for USDAA, AKC or DOCNA Nationals every year since 2002. Bogart is a few super q’s away from his USDAA ADCh and has 4 QQ’s toward his MACH.
A happy go lucky dog, Bogart is willing to try just about anything. He's a wonderful teammate and often runs the course with students or anyone who wants to play as long as they have COOKIES of course. Bogart’s served as a back-up dog at Speedoggie Agility Camp for several years and he hasn’t missed playing with a Flying High student there in 4 years.
He’s happy to do whatever you ask as long as cookies are involved. Since moving to CT swimming in Long Island Sound and chasing seagulls has become a favorite treat. He’s also the best co-pilot ever, sitting up and keeping me company on long Sunday night drives home.
His favorite pastimes are chasing squirrels and barking – and he's very good at both. People always know when Bogart is around as his is the only voice that can be heard. Bug likes camping, hiking, tugging and swimming – even in the dead of winter. We've played flyball, done rally and tried herding but agility was also his favorite game. Oh yes, did I mention that he likes COOKIES!
Bogart happily tests all new agility equipment and treats that come his way.
